The paper presents a psychometric analysis and the results of validation of the Russian version of the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), a popular brief measure of mindfulness. Using confirmatory factor analysis, several structural models were built and compared. The consistency and retest reliability of the general scale and some subscales was checked. The research was based on two independent samples of students aged from 16 to 29 years of both sexes, N = 531. The general scale of mindfulness was successfully validated, as well as two subscales labeled Disautomation and Concentration. MAAS was used in two studies parallel with other personality assessment tools. In the first study, a subsample of non-disabled students was compared to a subsample of students with sensory and motor disabilities. Mindfulness has been shown to be associated with subjective well-being and personality resources in both groups of students. Both significant relationships common for both groups and “group-specific” ones were found. This suggests that mindfulness plays a different role in both groups, being a more important self-regulation resource in students with disabilities than in their non-disabled peers. The results of the second study showed the lack of significant differences in the correlations of MAAS with methods that measure subjective well-being, basic traits, and reflexive personality traits. Mindfulness revealed moderate to strong stable significant positive correlations with indicators of subjective well-being and personal resilience resources. Subscales of MAAS were significantly negatively related to both constructive and non-constructive forms of self-reflection, except for the reflection on current activities, as well as to awareness of communicative contexts and problems associated with loneliness.

Keywords: mindfulness, validity, reliability, subjective well-being, personality resources, self-regulation, self-reflection, confirmatory factor analysis.
