The present study investigates the Russian employers’ expectations of the values of potential employees. Values were considered as one of the significant criteria in assessing the person-organization fit in the context of recruitment. Preferred values were identified by means of a survey of 174 heads of leading Russian companies. According to the Schwartz value survey, the most desired values preferred by the employers were universalism, stimulation, achievement, security and self-direction. Value profiles were also found to depend on the size of organizations. To our knowledge this is the first study examining the expectations of Russian employers on employee’s values. The results of the study can be applied in hiring practices and HR-brand correction in order to increase efficiency of investments in human capital. The applicable diagnostic tool for assessment of employers’ value preferences was validated in our study. These results might also expand awareness regarding value preferences of Russian employers.

Keywords: values, value preferences, employer’s expectations, person-organization fit, recruitment
